During my internship from May 2024 to August 2024 at Hubei State Grid Wuhan University of Technology Power Consulting Division, I had the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technologies in digital grid solutions, intelligent energy, and extensive data operations. The company specializes in integrating digital technology into power grid solutions, providing intelligent energy, system integration, and comprehensive data analytics expertise. This internship allowed me to work on several impactful projects, significantly enhancing my technical and professional skills.
Key Achievements

AI-Based Wildfire Detection System:
- One of the significant projects I worked on was the AI-based transmission line wildfire detection system. I was responsible for data processing and algorithm modeling. Using surveillance cameras and LabelImg, we collected and labeled video frames, incorporating meteorological data for enhanced analysis. I preprocessed the data by applying grayscale and normalization techniques, improving the input data’s quality and consistency.
- I used MobileNetV2 as a pre-trained model for the model construction, enhancing it with the SE Block attention mechanism to focus the model on fire regions. Additionally, I integrated a time-series LSTM module to help the model capture the dynamic features of fire development over time. Through multi-task learning, the model could detect both smoke and flames, achieving an 87.3% accuracy rate in wildfire detection, significantly improving its practical applicability.

Tool Development for Efficiency:
- Besides developing algorithms, I created several utility programs to improve team efficiency. For example, I used C++ to develop batch file renaming tools, Excel file batch processing utilities, and automated data validation and correction tools. - I was responsible for creating and standardizing the power distribution system’s topology diagram using Visio, ensuring the diagrams were transparent, standardized, and visually appealing. I also contributed to editing and improving product manuals, making sure the documentation adhered to the company’s standards and accurately conveyed technical details.
